Updated Statewide Travel Policy

April 6, 2015

In partnership with OPB , please be advised that section 2.2 (Car Rental) and section 2.3 (Personal Automobile) of the Statewide Travel Policy have been updated. The updates have been made to provide additional flexibility to agencies and travelers in regards to decisions related to rental car versus personal automobile. The updated Statewide Travel Policy is located on the SAO Travel Policy webpage. See below for highlights:

If a temporary fleet vehicle is not available, state employees may choose between a rental vehicle or mileage reimbursement for use of their personal vehicle.
By law, the State mileage reimbursement rates follow the published General Services Administration (GSA) rates and are as follows:

Tier 1 Rate: When a fleet (government owned) vehicle is not available, the employee will be reimbursed for business miles traveled based on the applicable GSA Tier 1 rates.
Tier 2 Rate: If a fleet (government owned) vehicle is available, BUT a personal motor vehicle is used, the employee will be reimbursed for business miles based on the applicable GSA Tier 2 Rate.
